Drinking your calories?

Ahhh I can't believe I'm quoting primetime. But last night I was watching The Biggest Loser and Jillian (the slightly man-ish totally ripped trainer) gave this advice to one of the new contestants: You never want to drink your calories.

What an excellent piece of knowledge for biggie-sized America. Drop your latte, soda, even your smoothie, and check out the calories you could save by just drinking water.

Tired of water? Humans, animals and plants have been drinking it for millions of years but you're bored? Try tea, sans milk and sugar. There are some great benefits to certain kinds of tea so spend some time with Traditional Medicinals next time you go to the store – and have a happy, healthy 2008!

Hi Michele,

This is off topic, but I couldn't find an email address to contact you by.

You mentioned in the comments of 101 Cookbooks that you are allergic to hazelnuts but no other nuts, and asked whether this is unusual.

No, it's not! The reason you are allergic is because of a specific compund in hazelnuts called immunoglobulin G1. It is in all hazelnuts, so it won't make a difference how they are prepared - steer clear!

Other nuts also have immunoglobulins, but different sorts that you are obviously not allergic too. The one that causes so many people to be allergic to peanuts is called immunoglobulin E.

Hope that helps!
